So here I am in the capital of the America. I met up with 2 friends Monica and Melissa from Dallas that moved here to DC a few months ago. We went to Eastern Market and walked around and then went to the Old Post Office to see the city from a higher point.
After a long talk in the park, I thought a lot. What I took away was this: Learn to give to others. You don’t have to have a lot in order to give. So when you do, just remember that others may feel like they have nothing at all. Everyone experiences pain. What a gift it is to be alive so think of all you have. You can think, breathe, enjoy life and chase dreams. It is important we keep moving forward even in the pain because you never know what you will discover. People find success in failure and love even when they’ve been hurt. Do what you love.
After are city sites we got back to Smitty’s where his roommates had cooked a beautiful duck. I couldn’t participate in the eating of it (due to my vegetarian state) but I did get to spend some “family meal time”. It was nice to see that even though everyone had their own lives, they get together on Sunday night to come together and spend time. This is how life should be, make time for those that are important.
After dinner, we went out and enjoyed the night sites. That is my favorite time to take pictures. The monuments aren’t packed with people and most take photos of them during the day. To me the lights bring glory. So we did the walk and enjoyed the sites.
Since it was Veterans day I think the quote from one of the pictures this is fitting “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. American will never forget their sacrifices.” Harry S Truman
So tomorrow I am going to head up North…. There are 9 states I have never been to and that is a part of my bucket list. I don’t know people up north so if any of my readers have connections please let me know.
