We all struggle with something. Society puts pressure on us to act, look, and to be a certain way. I struggle daily with the inner voices telling me to meet certain standards and when I don’t, I beat myself up. I know you do too.
So today, I am writing to you my friend because I know we have that in common.
We are all wearing masks. We don’t want the world to see what is really going on within. Every one of us is fighting a battle. Sometimes we feel like we are unlovable or that we don’t deserve the love that someone is giving us.
So what do we do?
We manipulate people in hopes that they love us. We create imaginary realities of who we are knowing within that we aren’t being the person we want to be. We trick others to liking us and even loving us. We do it with the best of intentions.
How can it be real love though if someone says “I will only love you if _____________”. Our minds fill in the blank with things like skinnier, more successful, have more material possessions, smarter etc… Those that love you aren’t really placing these conditions on us. If it is love, they love us for who we are. There is a good quote that says:
“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind the scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.” -Steve Furtick
Think about this: Do you place conditions on those you love to look, behave and act a certain way? Loving someone means loving them as they are and not as we think they should be.
To all my friends and those I know, this song is dedicated to you today from me. If you can, close your eyes as you listen to this song and imagine my arms around you telling you the words of this song.
I am reaching my hand out to any of you that need anything. We are all struggling with an inner battle of who we are.
Stay strong, stand firm and never back down, being yourself is the only way to act now.
