Biking the Danube, Passau to Linz

Matty and I took a bike ride from Passau, Germany to Linz Austria. It took us a full day to do. As you can see from the pics below, it wasn’t an easy task for a couple that hadn’t been riding recently. Matty needed a few breaks in the fetal position and my butt is still chapped 2 weeks later. Would we do it again? Absolutely. The towns we went through were amazing. We stumbled across a wine festival in Linz. The views we perfect. The weather was great. I don’t think we could have asked for more for the weekend. We had plans...

Cheb & Pilsen, Czech

Cheb & Pilsen, Czech

As many of you know, we are spending a short time in Czech Republic before moving to Italy. We spent some time exploring the local areas which includes the city of Cheb and Pilsen (think beer). The best beef rib I have EVER had was at Purkmistr. This place also brews their own unfiltered and unpasteurized beer. This gives the beer a slightly cloudy look. The dark (black) beer was a treat but like most dark beers, a small amount was perfect. However, they had a brown beer that was so much goodness and much easier to drink. The Czech is an...

Save Money on Rental Cars

Save Money on Rental Cars

I wrote yesterday about stopovers and hotel points and that was a hit, so today I wanted to share how I save money on rental cars. Matt and I are headed to South Africa in May. So last night I was searching for a SUV to rent for the month (29 days). When I was doing my search, like I always do, I played with the dates. Did you know a 32 day rental can be cheaper than a 29 day rental by almost $400???? Proof is seen below. All I did was change the date to PAST when we need the car and the rate dropped significantly. Avis doesn’t care if...

Trip Back Home- USA

I went home (USA) over the summer for a family reunion, residency for my doctorate, and Nana’s 70th birthday party which was also a fundraising event for the Alzheimer’s Association. While home I went to Louisiana, Florida, Maryland, California, Washington, Oregon, Key West (Florida again), Michigan, Canada/New York -Niagara Falls, and Pennsylvania. I got to cross 2 more states off my bucket list of states which means I only have Hawaii to visit. Without going into a bunch of details about the summer, here you can see a bit of...

Baltics -Including Pig Tongue

After our cruise in Norway, we took a second cruise through the Baltics. This included Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Russia, & Estonia. I said Estonia last because of all of them, I was least excited about going. However, Estonia’s old town is marvelous. Cobblestone paths and narrow streets, cathedrals and on and on… You don’t need a map nor an itinerary to stumble upon such interesting things. Estonia is also where we tried pig ear & tongue. Crazy right? I feel that to really experience a new country, you have...

Norway & Friends Along the Way

Norway & Friends Along the Way

In May, Matt and I took a few cruises. The first cruise was through Norway. We booked it 2 weeks before we it left. Norway is beautiful by boat. One of my favorite things to do was go out on the deck during sail in and sail offs. The fjords were AMAZING. I highly suggest if you want to go visit Norway, that you do so by boat. One of the cool parts about our trip is we get into port and see a RC boat that our friend Austin was working on. We sent him a text and next thing you know we are hanging out. This wouldn’t be the last time we got...

England, Scotland and Daddo

England, Scotland and Daddo

You know how some people come into your life and enrich it by their sheer presence ? That is Daddo. Daddo is Matt’s dad and he came to visit for 2 weeks. We did the marathon while Daddo completed the half marathon. After our run in England, we went to Scotland for a week. Matt and Daddo went golfing, rode ATVs, tried archery, drank whisky and more… I hung back because I wanted to give them a chance for some one on one guy time. One thing we did was “glamping” which is a term used in the UK for Glamorous Camping. You...
