Make Your Mark

I am at a pivotal moment in my journey. I have to stop to make some money much sooner than I had planned. Someone owes me a lot of money and since I moved out of Texas they aren’t paying back. They know the only way I can get it is by going back. I have the legal documents they signed agreeing to pay. A part of me says they shouldn’t be able to get away with this, the other side says to pick my battles wisely. To me, money isn’t a battle I am going to fight. The deeper issue is that I trusted this person to follow through on their commitment and it emotionally hurts me that the trust is now broke.

To me it is simple: Karma

So for now, I am not fighting the battle and chose to spend my energy nurturing my positive relationships and moving forward. The situation calls for me to settle down for awhile (few months) so that I can work to keep cash flow, keep working on the blog and also some time to recharge. I want to save up and go live overseas and that is my next goal.

There is a certain excitement about not having commitments that I can pretty much go anywhere I want. Sometimes too many options is overwhelming in figuring out what is “right”. What is right for most people (job, marriage and stability) is certainly not what I want for myself right now. Remember when it comes to dreams and goals just because it isn’t right for someone else doesn’t mean it isn’t right for you. It is hard to say what is “best” in any given situation and there is no way to ever tell.

It is the times that I have taken chances and followed my heart that has provided me with the biggest rewards. I understand that it is important that people be held down by thoughts of mortgages, paying bills and taxes therefore they work the standard 40 hours a week. If everyone followed their dreams there wouldn’t be near as much order and things wouldn’t get done as organized as they do with people that settle for less than their dreams. I just refuse to be the one to “settle” because life is short and you only get one try. I am here to have fun and make the most.

Anyone has the chance to make their dreams a reality even if it isn’t practical to the rest of the world. It requires courage to face their fears and being practical is in the eye of the beholder.

I tell myself that it is better to try something than it is to do nothing and just think and dream about the choices. An obvious sign of what is right will never come. Even if whatever I decide doesn’t work out, at least these is a life experience to show for it versus nothing to show for the time spent thinking and dreaming.

So for now, I am going to try to put in a little time here in Virginia. I love the home I am at and the people I am with. I have applied for a few jobs and I am going to look at doing substitute teaching and at other odd jobs. At least till I can get enough money and a few plans together, to buy a ticket overseas. For now, this is what I have to do to keep moving forward in my dreams.

I ask: Would your rather look back and see all the amazing things you dreamed up or see all the amazing experiences you lived because you kept moving forward chasing dreams?

“When you grow up you tend to get told the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money.

That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is – everything around you that you call life, was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.

The minute that you understand that you can poke life and actually something will, you know if you push in, something will pop out the other side, that you can change it, you can mold it. That’s maybe the most important thing. It’s to shake off this erroneous notion that life is there and you’re just gonna live in it, versus embrace it, change it, improve it, make your mark upon it.

I think that’s very important and however you learn that, once you learn it, you’ll want to change life and make it better, cause it’s kind of messed up, in a lot of ways. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.” -Steve Jobs
