Today We Celebrate Life

Man, this time of year is hard. I can’t believe it has been 5 years. Year one I definitely questioned if I could make it to this point and here we are! Here is a look back over the last 5 years and “lessons learned” from my blog each year. Writing is my therapy and reading what I wrote is even better because it is proof of the progress, much like a before and after photo. I wouldn’t be where I am today without some very important people in my life. So thank you friends and family for your support and love. Cheers to...

Unconditionally

Unconditionally

Everyone is going through their own journey and has endured pain. The amount pain influences decisions we make and when we hold onto pain, our outward actions tend to reflect that pain we feel inside. Everyone has been there. We’ve all been selfish, insensitive and hurt someone that was innocent. We are humans and being flawed comes with the territory. Lately I have been asking myself so many questions. How do you continue to love someone when they have hurt you so bad? So how do you forgive a person when everything inside of you wants...

Trip Back Home- USA

I went home (USA) over the summer for a family reunion, residency for my doctorate, and Nana’s 70th birthday party which was also a fundraising event for the Alzheimer’s Association. While home I went to Louisiana, Florida, Maryland, California, Washington, Oregon, Key West (Florida again), Michigan, Canada/New York -Niagara Falls, and Pennsylvania. I got to cross 2 more states off my bucket list of states which means I only have Hawaii to visit. Without going into a bunch of details about the summer, here you can see a bit of...

Norway & Friends Along the Way

Norway & Friends Along the Way

In May, Matt and I took a few cruises. The first cruise was through Norway. We booked it 2 weeks before we it left. Norway is beautiful by boat. One of my favorite things to do was go out on the deck during sail in and sail offs. The fjords were AMAZING. I highly suggest if you want to go visit Norway, that you do so by boat. One of the cool parts about our trip is we get into port and see a RC boat that our friend Austin was working on. We sent him a text and next thing you know we are hanging out. This wouldn’t be the last time we got...

Celebrate Life, 4 Years After Suicide

Celebrate Life, 4 Years After Suicide

Today marks 4 years since Sean made the choice to take his life. I can personally tell you that death by suicide adds another dimension to the mourning process. The questions it raises and the overwhelming feelings of unnecessary loss and abandonment is planted deep with those still alive. I don’t want to take away from what happened but every year I mourn this date and emotionally it hurts. However, I was given a gift that day and that is what I want to share right now. We have all heard the stories and seen the movies how people have...

Running My First Half Marathon

Running My First Half Marathon

I am not a runner. I never wanted to be. However, I am goal oriented and I love to push myself outside of my comfort zone. So when Matt and I learned we were moving to the UK and would be living in the back of the pub, I figured I needed to take action to keep myself motivated. I took the leap and signed us up for a half marathon in April and a full in May. I finished my half and I wanted to write to reflect and maybe just maybe inspire someone else to take the leap. I truly believe if I can do it, anyone can. My training plan is this: ONE...

Iceland

A few weeks ago Matty and I as well as a few friends, took a trip to Iceland! This country almost feels like another planet. It was pretty cold the time we were there but you can tell that spring isn’t far away. We got to see the Northern Lights as you will see pictured below. Eek!!!   The pictures speak for themselves so I will let you have a...

Fire Away – Life After Suicide

Fire Away – Life After Suicide

I came across a song called “Fire Away” from Chris Stapleton so I looked up the music video and now I sit here with a heavy heart and tears streaming down my face. So what do I do? Blog. The song is about one’s fight with depression. You see a husband /wife going through stages in a relationship and the ups and downs of a mental illness. The ultimate price is paid and what is left is destruction. I can relate and this video stirred up so much emotion. I know that Sean’s life didn’t have to end in suicide, but it...

Stay Strong

I have been shot down a few times over the last few weeks. Little by little things are crumbling. I spent a lot of time trying to get into a doctorate program to find out it wouldn’t be covered. I have been teaching fitness classes about 10 hours a week, only to find I won’t get to teach in the UK due to contracts. When you feel all the doors have been closed on you, take a deep breath, believe you can do it and look for a window. – Life Defused This takes a lot of courage and guts to stay strong, but it is not impossible....

I Love to Move… No Really, I do

I Love to Move… No Really, I do

Today I was having a conversation in my fitness class and someone asked “do you really like moving so much?” The short answer is: I do. The other week my mom said something about moving into a smaller house because my dad has Parkinson’s disease. Thinking that she might move freaks me out. My mom has lived in the same house for 20 plus years. She doesn’t change things often and thinking that she might, is a bit scary. So basically what I am saying is I understand why or how people would stay in the same place....
