Feels Like Home

I have been here for 3 days now. It feels like home. AJ and Dale are a huge part to thank for that. They have introduced me to so many people and taken me around to experience so much. Nice people here. Everyone is so friendly it feels like the town my family lives in called Abilene, Kansas. Of course everyone asks questions and wants to know who I am since I am new to town.

Yesterday AJ and I went to the store to get some food. They eat out every meal and I told them there is no way I can do that. So we went and got some food. AJ wouldn’t let me pay. I am used to paying for everything myself so it was hard for me. That action speaks volume. By talking to AJ you would wonder because as his saying goes ‘his give a damn is busted’. That isn’t true. He cares. If you look at what people’s actions are, you will learn that words don’t mean much. If you don’t understand someone’s actions, you will never understand their words and their meaning in your life. It is important that you take time to listen to words but more important that you read someone’s actions.

Dale got a new lab dog yesterday from the pound. It is a female about 1 1/2 years old. he calls her Baby. I am not sure if that is going to be her name or not. Baby is a common term for everyone down here. Something was on Dale’s mind because he wasn’t as talkative yesterday. At dinner time I asked him if everything was ok and he said it was. He got up and walked to the door and I could see him limping. I felt like he didn’t want to burden me with his problems but I could tell he was hurting. It reminded me that we don’t always know how bad someone is hurting physically or emotionally. He has been so kind it is in moments like that I wish I could do something more to help. When I left last night, the only thing I could do was give him a hug and tell him I hope to see more smiles tomorrow.

The dog isn’t the only thing Dale rescues. There is a horse here that is nothing but bones that we give medicine to every day to try and save it. He also has a horse that was born 6 months ago that he had to save. Her name is Henrietta and she will follow you around and is really gentle. Most of them are large Belgium horse (very large) but are very gentle. Dale shows what life is like living through kindness. Below are pics of 2 of the horses (Sky and Henrietta).
